Our Pastor: Kenji Takagi
Pastor Kenji Takagi was born in Akiruno City, Tokyo. His journey of faith began when he attended the engagement ceremony of a friend from his futsal group. Through that occasion, he was led to Hachioji Christ Church, where he had a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ. He experienced a joy and hope that completely transformed his view of life, and six months later, he was baptized.
Afterward, Pastor Takagi continued serving in welfare facilities and social welfare organizations, dedicating nearly ten years to community welfare work. Through facing many hardships and challenges in the field, he developed a deep desire to devote his life both to building up the church and serving the local community. With this calling in mind, he enrolled in the online program at Central Bible Seminary. While studying there, he worked together with colleagues to establish a Christian nonprofit organization and a support facility for people with disabilities in order to put into practice the vision God had given him. Through both ministry experience and theological study, he graduated from the seminary in 2019. He later served at Amatsuka Christ Church in Nagoya before coming to Central Bible Church, where he currently serves.
Alongside his pastoral ministry, he also teaches “Introduction to Christian Social Welfare” and “Disability Welfare Studies” at his alma mater, Central Bible Seminary. In addition, he seeks to serve the church by drawing on his professional experience as a certified social worker, mental health social worker, and licensed public psychologist, as well as his past experiences as a foster parent and director of a children’s cafeteria ministry.
In his personal life, Pastor Takagi is blessed with his wife and their three energetic sons. His hobbies include boxing, futsal, and calligraphy. Valuing both activity and reflection, he hopes to walk alongside others as a pastor who is approachable and supportive.
